Aegis Aerospace Partners with Texas A&M University to Create Dedicated Flight Facility on the ISS for University Research
Aegis Aerospace Inc. has announced unprecedented news that the company will help bring higher education even higher at Texas A&M University by partnering with the University to create TAMU-SPIRIT, a private flight facility on the International Space Station (ISS) dedicated to university research.
TAMU-SPIRIT, which stands for Texas A&M / Aegis Aerospace Multi-Use Space Platform Integrating Research & Innovative Technology, will be a dedicated facility for activities such as in-space research, testing, advanced materials manufacturing, robotics testing, space surveillance and tracking technologies.
“It is an honor to partner with and help elevate space research for my alma mater,” shared Aegis Aerospace CEO and Chairman Stephanie Murphy. “Creating the TAMU-SPIRIT truly demonstrates the tenacity, spirit and world-class leadership of Texas A&M and its space research.”
Aegis Aerospace will own and operate the TAMU-SPIRIT test facility, and there will be an open call for experiments every six months for students, faculty and other researchers within the Texas A&M University System. Students and faculty will also partner in the on-going operations process.
The design for the TAMU-SPIRIT flight facility will be based on Aegis Aerospace’s MISSE Flight Facility, the busiest permanent commercial flight facility on the ISS, with operations to start as early as 2027.

Depiction of TAMU-SPIRIT, based on Aegis Aerospace’s commercial flight facility, MISSE. MISSE has been commercially in operation on the International Space Station since 2018.
