Executive chairman selected for coveted entrepreneur award
MEI Technologies, Inc. (MEIT) is proud to announce its Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, Stephanie Murphy, has been selected for the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation (HENAAC) – Entrepreneur award, part of the Great Minds in STEM™ (GMiS) organization.
The coveted entrepreneur award is designated for an entrepreneur of Hispanic descent, owning at least half of a thriving small- or medium-sized STEM business.
Murphy is the majority owner of MEI Technologies, Inc. (MEIT), providing innovative technical services and solutions to NASA and the Department of Defense; she also founded MEIT spin-off company Alpha Space Test and Research Alliance, LLC (Alpha Space), a commercial space company serving the space R&D and testing markets.
Murphy was introduced to the world of entrepreneurship as a child when her father and past HENAAC GMiS award recipient, Edelmiro Muniz, first launched MEIT, then known as Muniz Engineering. She learned early on the sacrifices and rewards of taking a risk, and the commitment it meant to sustain a business. Decades later, Murphy took over the family business and continues to flex her entrepreneurial spirit and leadership as she leads her successful businesses.
“I am truly honored to be selected by such a great organization serving the Hispanic and STEM communities,” shared Murphy. “This award means so much to me, and I am humbled to have received an award my father, the founder of MEIT, received decades before me.”
Murphy will be formally recognized by HENAAC in October in a virtual celebration in lieu of the black-tie affair originally planned to take place in Orlando.
