MEIT partners with San Jacinto College to deliver cyber security training via Department of Labor grant
Officials at MEI Technologies, Inc. (MEIT), a nationwide technology company, today announced they have partnered with San Jacinto College (SJC) to offer cyber security training to more than 2,500 unemployed and incumbent workers as part of a new $4.9 million H-1B Technical Skills Training Grant awarded to SJC from the U.S. Department of Labor.
The partnership will implement the Information Technology
Training for Tomorrow (IT3) Project to offer local industry with
information technology (IT) security, mid-level IT training and IT soft
skills training. In addition to MEIT, other partners include the IBM
Corporation, Lockheed Martin Corporation, the Gulf Coast Workforce Board
and the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.
“We’re excited to work with San Jacinto College and with the
other partners on the IT3 program that is being funded by this grant,”
said Michael Van Chau, vice president of cyber strategy and development
with MEI Technologies. “The program’s participants will have
opportunities to develop and increase their skills in IT security and
cloud computing as mobile devices become more prevalent in delivering
business applications. The transformation of the local workforce to
support the IT infrastructure of the future will contribute positively
to local economic development.”
MEIT recently served on the Cloud2 Commission – a collaboration
with the TechAmerica Foundation, industry and academia – to develop
recommendations for accelerating adoption of cloud technologies in the
U.S. government.
