VERTIGO completes first of four test sessions
Check out this interview with Brent Tweddle, the Visual Estimation and Relative Tracking for Inspection of Generic Objects (VERTIGO) Principle Investigator from MIT, discussing VERTIGO and the first ISS test session.
VERTIGO is a set of “Goggles” that take a series of photos of an unknown object, generates a 3D map of the object, and uses the map for visual based navigation. The VERTIGO payload attached to the SPHERES satellites successfully completed the first of four test sessions on the ISS.
VERTIGO is sponsored by DARPA and designed by MIT. The payload integration of VERTIGO was performed by MEIT on the DHEP contract.
