Release from Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (HOUSTON)–Alpha Space Test and Research Alliance (Alpha Space) and technology/defense company MEI Technologies, Inc. (MEIT) became one dynamic company when they introduced themselves to the world as Aegis Aerospace Inc. during the 36th National Space Symposium held in Colorado Springs, Co., from Aug. 23-26, 2021 (www.AegisAero.com).  Stephanie Muñiz Murphy is the principal owner and Executive Chair of the Board of Aegis Aerospace with Mark Gittleman, who was CEO of Alpha Space, serving as its president and CEO. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas, near the Johnson Space Center.

Bob Mitchell, president of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, commented, “We at BAHEP are acutely aware of the remarkable expertise that Stephanie Muñiz Murphy and Mark Gittleman bring to Aegis Aerospace. MEIT has long been a member of BAHEP having joined the organization in April 1995. Mark Gittleman served on our Board of Directors for several years. Aegis may be a newly-formed company, but its leadership and employees have decades of service in the aerospace/technology/defense industries. I wish Stephanie and Mark all the best as they lead Aegis during this exciting time of space commercialization.”

Mark Gittleman said, “Aegis Aerospace combines the best practices, approaches, and capabilities of the commercial space industry, traditional NASA, and the DoD. Our customers are responding very favorably to the merger, and we look forward to the exciting possibilities that lay ahead for everyone involved.”

MEIT and Alpha Space “know space.” Since 1992, MEIT has flown on every major launch vehicle. This includes flying one of the first internal International Space Station (ISS) payloads and the very first ISS external payload. To date MEIT’s space access achievements are impressive with 35 free flying satellites, 127 missions flown, 422 payloads, and 1,370,072 science mission hours (www.meitechinc.com).

Founded in 2015, Alpha Space, a commercial space company serving the space R&D and testing markets, operates a privately-owned, external facility known as the MISSE on the ISS under agreements with NASA and the ISS National Lab. Alpha Space launches MISSE missions every six months and controls the facility and customer experiments from its payload operations control center in Houston, Texas. It is also currently developing two lunar payloads for delivery to the Moon in 2023 and 2024 that will expand its Space Testing as a Service (STaaS) to the lunar surface (www.alphaspace.com).

Thirty years of success stand behind the merger of MEIT and Alpha Space into Aegis Aerospace Inc. (pronounced ējis) which bring a unique expertise to customers in the space and defense industries.
